Benefits of a Backyard Flock

Studies show that eggs from backyard flocks have approximately 25% more vitamin E, 75% more beta carotene, as much as twenty times the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids and only about half as much cholesterol as factory farmed eggs.  A small flock of well-tended chickens are not at risk for bacteria such as E. Coli, Salmonella and Campylobacter.  And in case you aren’t aware, hens do not need a rooster to lay eggs!

Chickens help out in the garden by eating pests and weeds and pooping fertilizer!  They also oxygenate soil with their scratching.

And chickens make fun pets!  When raised with people, they often follow them around and perch on spare shoulders.

If you have a backyard flock you will know where your eggs are coming from and know how the chickens are fed and treated. It’s nice to know where your food is coming from.
